SWAY is designed with a curiosity for the sculptural qualities of furniture and the common notion of furniture as static objects. How can motion be captured within shape? Can furniture be perceived as dynamic without actually moving?

Inspired by the intuitive approach and methods of sculpture the shape of SWAY was not entirely determined prior to manufacturing but evolved over the time of the process – as the different parts and materials came together and where shaped by hand. The process is therefore strongly embedded in the final shape; as the intuitive origin of the curves translates motion – or the feeling of it – into a static physical shape.

The chair is made of fiberglass with the intension of emphasizing the shape as one fluent piece.
